Cancer Counselling

Being diagnosed or supporting someone through cancer can be a frightening and overwhelming experience —hospital appointments, waiting for scan results, the feelings of vulnerability, a lack of control, and dark thoughts that are fuelled by fear.

Since 2009, I have specialised working with cancer patients and loved ones also affected by a cancer diagnosis.

Cancer is a life-changing experience for the patient, close family, and friends who are all affected in one way or another. Cancer can change the way you view yourself and the world and relationships around you. For some, it will bring you closer — and for others, it will create distance. Being strong for yourself and others can be exhausting, especially on days when you want to just pull the duvet over your head and be left alone.

When treatment has finished, there can be a feeling that you are on your own — you no longer have the regular support structure of clinical leads and appointments that made you feel safe. However, this can also be a time of focus and reassessment of priorities in your life. Either can be a daunting time, but with the right help and guidance, it can be a time to rediscover yourself and start to move forward.

My sessions offer you a safe space to explore your feelings and talk through your thoughts without worrying about burdening others. Having that time to speak openly can give you clarity and a way forward.
